国内3つの州に7つのキャンパス︵シドニー、ブリスベン、キャンベラ、メルボルン、バララット等︶を持つ国立の総合大学である。全体で4学部のプログラムを提供している。学部は教育、芸術、科学、保健科学など多岐にわたっており、中でもEducation︵教育学︶、Nursing︵看護学︶、Business & Information︵ビジネス&情報科学︶はオーストラリアの国内外でも高く評価されている。
大学院の修士課程については、国内外の現職の教員︵主にDean職、Vice Principal, Principalを対象︶に定評のあるMaster of Education及びMaster of Educational Leadershipや、現職の看護師に定評のある看護修士課程を設置している。

ACUの重要な領域は心理学で、特に臨床とカウンセリングの面が重要である。メルボルンのセントパトリックス・キャンパス[1]の、臨床・カウンセリングの専門家によって支えられている。ACUの代表はオーストラリア心理学登録議会︵Australian Psychologists' Registration Board︶[2]とオーストラリア心理協会︵Australian psychological Society (APS)︶[3]に所属する。
ACUの図書館はQueensland University Libraries Office of Cooperation (QULOC)[4]のメンバーである。
