Bundling stickers is one of the ways to help out at the FSF office. This page contains the instructions for the task.

Bundling Stickers

"FSF" stands for "Free Sticker Foundation" - and indeed we really hand out the decals. As I type, we have about 150,000 in inventory - nearly all of them neatly bundled in stacks of 100. This makes inventory a lot easier to count and control.

This task happens when we receive a box of stickers - usually five or ten thousand at a time. We bundle the entire delivery as soon as possible so we always know exactly how many are on hand.

Freshly delivered stickers typically rest near the front desk, by the elevator.

How to do it

For individual stickers: Count ten piles of ten stickers each and agglomerate them into a single pile of 100. This is your master pile. Stack some of the remaining stickers into a pile of equal height, bind them with a sturdy rubber band, and slip in a piece of paper marked "100". Repeat until fewer than 100 stickers remain, and count the number of bundles.

For stickers on rolls, you can count out 10 stickers, then fold the tape back and forth at that length nine more times. When you have counted 100 stickers you should see 5 folds on the end of the pile that only has folds and no ends. Once you break off your 100, fold the stack of stickers, bind them with a sturdy rubber band, and slip in a piece of paper marked "100". Repeat until fewer than 100 stickers remain, and count the number of bundles.

Finishing Up

Load those stickers up in a cardboard box. Report the number of stickers you bundled. That's about it!
