A computers main function is often turning data into information.
The difference between data and information, is inherent value. Most of the time, that value is only guaranteed through confidentiality. Which is a primary duty of the OS.
If I were to choose who to trust today, it would ironically be (Open)BSD. Since Linux has been too busy back-forking each other like WNBA bitches since before Y2K. Worst catfight I ever saw was an argument over who’s gonna wear the sexy penguin dress to the boxed Mandriva drop at CompUSA.
