I intend to use 4 750gb hard disks with a raid 5 volume on them.

Isn't it better to use 3 or 5 disks for a raid5 volume instead of 4?

Maybe it will be 3 disks on RAID5 + spare disk.

What's wrong with a RAID5 of four disks???
Any number of disks work fine, as long as it's atleast three. But if you get a
large number of disks, performance starts to take a hit when doing small writes
as well as if you need to reconstruct things.
