Hi Jeremy! It's great that you are considering contributing :) On Mon, 8 Dec 2025, Jeremy F wrote:
I am looking for a project to contribute to, and all roads lately seem to come back to NetBSD. Since I am not savvy with C I thought perhaps pkgsrc may be a good place to begin. How might one find out which packages need help or perhaps are orphaned?
You could look at the pkgsrc doc/TODO file (https://github.com/NetBSD/pkgsrc/blob/trunk/doc/TODO). It suggests a ton of stuff. Maybe you could start by looking at one of the update suggestions and try updating something.
Once you have a patch, there are multiple ways to feed it back to us: - commit the updated package to pkgsrc-wip and ask for it to be applied to pkgsrc itself. Getting an account for wip is easy. - as an email attachment to one of the mailing lists - you can file a PR with the patchYou can check the pkgsrc guide for help, or ask on IRC or here if you are stuck.
