Make Dynamic URLs Search Engine Friendly
Contributed by Peter Lavin

Using a database to dynamically create web pages makes for a much improved site in many ways. However, such URLs are not very search engine friendly. Search engines are much better at indexing static pages, and don't do a good job of following hyperlinks that contain query strings. The advantages of a dynamic site are overwhelmingly obvious--so what is to be done? With a little extra effort, you can create a dynamic site that is easily crawled by webbots.  Discuss this Article!

Many enterprises have built Web Services pilot projects, proving that WS can reduce integration and development cost substantially and enhance customer and supplier integration. This article will walk you through the Web Service development process using PHP, MySQL, VB, NuSOAP or XML-RPC. Before going further, you can download and install the client (the example, discussed in this article) from here and start playing with it for a better understanding the topics of this article.  Discuss this Article!

Full-house, Go-Fish, and Blackjack – some of my favorite games to play when I’m with friends. Alright, maybe that’s not true, but they’re definitely a way to pass the time. The words “deck” and “card” are synonymous to playing cards.  However, they are also the terms used when developing WAP-enabled websites using WML.  In this tutorial, I’ll give a breakdown on just what WAP and WML are and how they can be used.  We’ll also run through creating a simple WAP-enabled site making use of multiple cards in a deck.  There will be ample code to get you started on developing your own WAP-enabled site, whether for fun or for business.  Discuss this Article!

GNU wget is a free utility which runs under UNIX and Windows. In a nutshell, this program can go out and effectively mirror a Website for local browsing or backup purposes. While it has more powerful features, this article will focus on the basics of the tool.

yEnc Format Files

yEncNews and Mail transfer require that a binary attachment is "encoded" before it is sent. And they are "decoded" after they have been received. Normally all this is done by your newsreader (or mail-program). You don’t see it. Most don’t even know it. yEnc files are formatted in a coding system that is up to 40% smaller than UUencode and Base64, and also include error checking and multipart file support. This means that posts are smaller, and take less time to download.  Discuss this Article!

Web ServicesThe old days when embedded devices and factory floor machines had only minimal interaction with humans, the on/off button and little else, are gone. Today the ability to access the device from anywhere is expected. This is a significant challenge when we are sweating over every dollar required in hardware. With a little bit of knowledge and a relatively small piece of software, we can provide a Web service for this type of interaction.  Discuss this Article!
