Our team builds and maintains the authorization platform that GitHub users rely on to access the features and resources they depend on in GitHub.

As an Engineering Manager, you will work closely with a distributed, diverse, and passionate team of engineers, designers, product managers, and user researchers to improve and maintain the authorization engine that millions of developers depend on every day to access GitHub.

In this role, you will be responsible for guiding the team in our mission to build reliable, maintainable, and approachable services that power GitHub authorization. You will lead a team of software engineers to design, prototype, implement, ship and support highly performant and scalable services.

The Authorization team is a fully remote team. We expect you to have the ability to communicate complex technical concepts, and be able to create working relationships with coworkers in locations around the globe.

Responsibilities


Cultivate an environment where team members are empowered through a collective sense of ownership and belonging

Meet with team members 1-on-1 on a regular basis

Ensure that team members learn, grow, and advance in their careers

Create a shared understanding of decision making, direction, and progress for the team, the company, and the community 

Encourage an environment of technical excellence, and facilitate architectural discussions and decision making

Communicate with partner teams at GitHub on architecture and best practices


Minimum Qualifications


2+ years experience managing engineering teams

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong attention to detail, planning, and organization

Worked previously with a distributed team

Experience with developing a strategy and roadmap for your teams


Preferred Qualifications


Experience building highly available and scalable distributed systems

Developed or managed teams that focus authorization platforms.

Ability to meet GitHub, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft, GitHub parent company, Cloud Screen upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Minimum salary of $104,400 to maximum $250,600 + bonus + equity + benefits.

Note: Disclosure as required by sb19-085 (8-5-20) of the minimum salary compensation for this role when being hired in Colorado.
