Introducing OpenShot Library: A Powerful New Video Editing Framework!

Jonathan Thomas Audience: Everyone Topic: General Take a behind-the-scenes look at the powerful new video editing library which will bring many professional level features to the next version of OpenShot, including a curve-based animation system, time re-mapping, and sub-pixel image processing. Learn how these features were developed, how they work, and how easily they can be controlled with curves to create the perfect effect for your next video! This presentation is perfect for anyone with an interest in open-source video editing, regardless of skill-level. Animation Curves: A video is often composed of many layers of videos, images, and audio files. When these elements need to be manipulated over time, such as increasing volume, fading a video to black, or sliding a video off the screen, this requires an animation system. I will demonstrate how a curve-based animation system works, and how it differs from most open-source video editors. Time Re-Mapping: Control the speed and direction of video and audio files, and even vary it over time. For example, slowing down a video to the point it starts playing in reverse. In other words, control which frame of a video plays at any given time, using an animation curve. Sub-Pixel Image Processing: To prevent jittery animation, all clips are processed with sub-pixel precision, which allows an animation to place images between pixels. I will discuss the challenges of sub-pixel precision, and demonstrate why it is so desirable.
