What is Bufferbloat?
Stephen Hemminger
Audience:
Everyone
Topic:
Kernel
Linux has been at the forefront of networking for 10 years. In 2009, Jim Gettys started the discussion of the problems caused by excessive queuing in the Internet. This phenomena is complex and this talk explains the causes, effects and solutions in physical terms. Many developers have participated in creating alternative solutions to the problem. The demonstration will use bottle, funnels, hoses and humor to explain queuing, and queuing algorithms. Examples of Random Exponential Drop, CoDel, and Fair Queueing will demonstrated with some audience participation.
