NetBSD has reasonably good O2 support, but I think two issues would be showstoppers: - No XFS support - Support for non-R5K O2s is not great (I'm not even sure if they boot). Linux would be the best choice, I think, as it has XFS support. That said, I just checked the Debian MIPS port page[1] and I see only R5K O2s are supported. Hrm.
