It is bad geek port.  It is much better to figure out something else.
Use an AVR chip or a Luminary Micro Stellaris (ARM MCU that is under $3
in single pieces) or buy a USB -> parallel module (not parallel port,
but something that can do 8 or 16 in/outs).
