A '''referendum''' on electoral redistributions in South Australia was held on 9 February 1991. The proposal put to voters would require the [[South Australian Electoral Districts Boundaries Commission]] to redistribute the electoral boundaries following every election, and to consider a broader range of criteria when reviewing boundaries: specifically, "to draw the boundaries in such a way that the party with the majority of (the [[Two-party-preferred vote|two-party]]) vote would also win the majority of seats and so be able to form government". The proposals were accepted by a wide margin.<ref>{{cite web|last1=Brooks|first1=David|last2=Gill|first2=Zoe|last3=Weste|first3=John|title=South Australian Referenda, 1896-1991|url=http://www.parliament.sa.gov.au/Library/ReferenceShare/Documents/ResearchPaper7_2008.pdf|website=Parliament of South Australia|accessdate=16 August 2016|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20150409141249/http://www.parliament.sa.gov.au/Library/ReferenceShare/Documents/ResearchPaper7_2008.pdf|archivedate=9 April 2015}}</ref>
