In 2010, Oriental acquired failed competitor [[EuroBancshares|Eurobank]]. On 2012, Oriental announced the acquisition of Spain's [[Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria]]'s Puerto Rican unit for $500 million in cash.
