This section probably ought to be under White tie rather than here. But first, something I noticed:
"A watch is not considered de rigueur except for jewelled versions in which the face is covered so that it resembles a bracelet."

No, what was meant was, "You must not wear a watch with a ballgown. The one exception is that if you have a watch that looks like a bracelet (i.e. the face over the watch is covered, as with a jewelled flap, you may wear it without being thought a peasant." Quill 00:11, 2 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
