This was part of the then new expanded format in which there was wildcard weekend and the two wildcard winners played each other. In both years, the Oilers won this game, won the divisional playoff the following weekend, and made it to the AFC championship, losing to the Steelers both years.
Now, in 1980 wildcard team the Oakland Raiders won the championship, winning Superbowl XV. But in the early 1980s, how many other teams did that or even made it to the AFC or NFC championships. And was there even one other team who went deep into the playoffs two years in a row, both years as a wildcard team? FriendlyRiverOtter (talk) 19:34, 14 February 2012 (UTC)okReply
Since the "history" of the Oilers and the "history" of the Titans are actually the uninterrupted history of a single club, it makes sense to include them together in one article. Referring to the "History of the Oilers" seems like a roundabout way of wishing/pretending the team didn't rebrand itself as the Titans. --68.179.186.240 (talk) 06:07, 25 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
