Ammunition

edit

Um, LSAT is working on CTA (Cased Telescoped Ammunition) NOT polymer cased ammunition. That stuff has been on the market for a couple of years already. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.45.74.120 (talk) 01:15, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

The CTA cartridge cases under development for the LSAT are made of plastic. --D.E. Watters (talk) 02:21, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

"first significant step"

edit

Re: this claim: "lightening small arms is the first significant step towards increasing soldiers' lethality and survivability." This obviously needs qualification of some kind. As it stands, it implies military technology has been stagnant for thousands of years, with only minor cosmetic improvements (like firearms, helmets, body armor, radios…) until some genius said "make the kit lighter." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:1C2:1A80:7C10:5CB:1F53:BCA1:B032 (talk) 17:22, 31 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

"Tremendous progress"

edit

Re: this claim in the article: "As of 2008, the program has achieved tremendous progress." Says who? This claim should be sourced. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.86.119.173 (talk) 03:07, 25 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Need an update

edit

I don't think we have heard anything on this project in a few years. What's the current status now? ScienceApe (talk) 16:08, 19 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

It seems they have a fireable LMG, an almost fireable assault rifle and decent plastic cased ammo. The caseless ammo seems not up to scratch yet. There are rumours that the current NATO caliber (the cased 5,56 mm) lacks stopping power and performance at range, and that a new LSAT round will have to take that into consideration. Before this is resolved, I would imagine the LSAT-project is in something of a limbo. Some source and a video to prove it actually goes bang. Petter Bøckman (talk) 21:11, 5 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Advanteges of a plastic case vs. caseless

edit

In the article it states like plastic case would have a markedly better heat performance compared to caseless cartridge. I very much doubt that claim, but if there's a source for that, I'm ready to check my stance. --J. Sketter (talk) 16:10, 2 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
