Thanks! Yes, the period was part of the name. The horse was named after the owner's daughter, Maud Stone. It seemed to be pretty common at the time to name a horse in some way after the owner or a member of the family. Like Jay Eye See, one of Maud S.'s competitors - J. I. C. were the owner's initials.
