Am I right in thinking that the company is now only known as VR, and that Valtionrautatiet is obsolete? Arwel 11:00 1 Jun 2003 (UTC)
This page, like the SJ AB page contains a mistranslation. Both the VR (Finland) and SJ (Sweden) are translated as some variant of "State's Railway."
Split the compound word (common in Finnish) Valtionrautatiet into its two halves.
Valtion- : State's (valtio = state, -n (ending) is the possessive case in Finnish)
-rautatiet: The Railway (rautatie = railway, -t (ending) is essentially "the" in Finnish) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.192.175.72 (talk) 23:36, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I added the notion that the international trains to Russia, the Sibelius, Repin and Tolstoi, are passenger traffic, in order to avoid confusion with freight traffic. Furthermore, added a little information about freight traffic between Finland and Russia, and added an external link to VR Cargo, which company handles the domestic freight traffic in Finland.
I think someone could add an entire section (or article) about the freight traffic, since freight is a significant source of income for the VR Group.
Also, I think that this article focuses too much on the Pendolino. It is true that the Pendolino is the current flagship of VR, but as of now, the article says nothing about the Intercity services. This gives not a very balanced picture about VR operations, in my opinion. The chapter "Pendolino Routes" could be removed altogether, since this information is interesting only for the rail enthusiast, and is obtainable from the VR Internet site. Instead, one could simply mention the length of the track net and total number of destinations where the Pendolino currently operates.
I doubt that is done or even possible on Finnish railways. Maybe with some special low-floor specialized container carrier wagons (that don't exist in Finland as far as I know). Somebody please correct me if I am wrong.

I feel that this article is not easy to read. Perhaps the different rolling stock should be on its own page. Also information like the travel times is perhaps obsolete and is repeated on Rail transport in Finland... Related to the subject, Finnish Transport Agency and TraFi (Finnish transport safety agency) should also be populated. --Yaamboo (talk) 18:10, 16 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

VR (company) → VR Group – Article was moved from this title in December 2017 without discussion and with an edit summary of "WP:NCCORP". An excerpt from that guideline: "The legal status suffix of a company ... is not normally included in the article title ... When disambiguation is needed, the legal status, an appended "(company)", or other suffix can be used to disambiguate (for example, Oracle Corporation, Borders Group)". There was nothing wrong with the original title per the NCCORP guideline, however the WP:NATURALDIS policy does state that natural disambiguation should be used over parenthetical when possible (egNike, Inc.). The VR Group name more precisely identifies the topic and is commonly used in the media.[1][2][3] BLAIXX 12:37, 22 August 2019 (UTC)--Relisting.
