This is a route-map template for a UK railway.

  • For pictograms used, see Commons:BSicon/Catalogue.
  • This template should be added to all Route Diagram Templates of United Kingdom railways.

It will automatically include the diagram in Category:Templates for railway lines of the United Kingdom.

Adding an optional parameter will include the railway name as a link, for example,

    Stockton and Darlington Railway

will change the first line of the template to:

This is a route-map template for the Stockton and Darlington Railway, a UK railway.

Adding an optinal second parameter will change the displayed text of the link, making it a piped link, for example,

    >"Little" North Western Railway

will change the first line of the template to:

This is a route-map template for the North Western Railway, a UK railway.

The optional named parameter |type= will change “a UK railway” to “a UK alternate text”. For example,

will change the first line of the template to:

This is a route-map template for a UK miniature railway.

    and,

will change the first line of the template to:

This is a route-map template for the Ffestiniog Railway, a UK narrow gauge railway.

The optional named parameter |the=anything will omit the word ‘the’ before the linked page. For example,

will change the first line of the template to:

This is a route-map template for Bristol Temple Meads, a UK railway station.

The optional named parameter |place= will change “a UK railway” to “a alternate text railway”. For example,

will change the first line of the template to:

This is a route-map template for a Isle of Wight railway.

    and,

will change the first line of the template to:

This is a route-map template for Tramlink, a South London light rail line.

    Categories

By default the template will be included in Category:Templates for railway lines of the United Kingdom. However, adding the parameter |cat= provides a shortcut for other categories:

    |cat= Category Text
no none … a UK railway.
Lor LON or London Category:Templates for railway lines of London … a London-area railway.
NorNI Category:Templates for railway lines of Northern Ireland … a Northern Ireland railway.
Sor Scotland Category:Templates for railway lines of Scotland … a Scottish railway line and/or company.
Wor Wales Category:Templates for railway lines of Wales … a Welsh railway line and/or company.
Tor TfL Category:Templates for Transport for London … a Transport for London service or facility.
Bor bus Category:Templates for bus routes of the United Kingdom … a (place) bus route or line.
STN or station Category:United Kingdom station layout templates* … a (place) railway station.

    * in addition to Category:Templates for railway lines of the United Kingdom

Note that this parameter is not case sensitive: i.e. |cat=NO produces the same result as |cat=no.

The optional named parameter |catidx= will add a sort key to the category.
