About the National Book Foundation

edit

The National Book Foundation’s mission is to celebrate the best literature published in the United States, expand its audience, and ensure that books have a prominent place in our culture.

The NBF was founded in 1989 to administer the National Book Awards, which has been one of the most prestigious literary prizes in the country since 1950. The Foundation also produces numerous educational and public programs that help connect readers to books in new and meaningful ways.

Wikipedian-in-Residence 2024

edit

Maxwell Neely-Cohen will be the NBF’s Wikipedian-in-Residence for 2024.

This project aims to help fill gaps in Wikipedia’s coverage of American literature, share and upload materials from the NBF archives with the Wikimedia community, and connect and collaborate with other GLAM institutions and WikiProjects such as WikiProject Books, WikiProject Literature, WikiProject Novels, WikiProject Children's literature, WikiProject Poetry, and WikiProject Biography
