Note that the reliability of a source depends on many factors, including precisely what information the source is being used to support. A book from a reputable publisher more than a hundred years ago may be a very good source for some things, but I would be dubious about what an English (presumably) writer in the 1920s had to say about sensitive cultural issues in seventeenth century India.
