Abdali Hospital is a 200-bed multi-specialty hospital located in the modern development of Al-Abdali, Amman, Jordan. The hospital was founded by the investment group behind the Clemenceau Medical Center in Beirut, which is affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. The hospital treats numerous health conditions and receives grants for medical laboratory services.[1][2][3][4]

Abdali Hospital opened on 1 July 2019 and began receiving patients in early September 2019.[5]

Architecture and construction

Situated on 5,500 m2 (59,000 sq ft), the hospital is 75,000 m2 (810,000 sq ft) in size and has 35 floors.[6] It is designed to ensure efficient patient inflow and outflow, staff circulation, and segregation of inpatient and outpatient traffic.[7][8]

The hospital features:

The hospital has easy access to the Boulevard, the Abdali Mall, and nearby hotels. It also overlooks different views of the old part of Al-Abdali, Amman, and buildings representing Jordanian culture, such as the King Abdullah l mosque.[16]

The building is powered by the largest solar plant in the world to power a single healthcare facility, according to its developer[17], and is an 8.2 MW photovoltaic power plant.

Facilities

Abdali Hospital serves patients of numerous specialties, including: orthopedics and rheumatology; cardiovascular; gastrointestinal; general surgery; a breast and women's health center; obstetrics and gynecology; plastic surgery, dermatology and aesthetics; ear, nose and throat; urology; diabetes and endocrinology; neurology and neurosurgery; nephrology and dialysis; pulmonology and intensive care; internal medicine; oncology; infectious diseases; anesthesiology and pain management; and emergency medicine.[18][19][20][21][22][23]

The emergency room (ER Department) is equipped with private examination rooms for general treatment, a resuscitation unit, and a minor operation procedural unit and is located on the ground floor with its separate entrance to facilitate immediate access and is adjacent to the imaging department for easier patient flow.[24][25]

Abdali hospital hosts 10 operating theatres, 4 endoscopy suits, 3 catheterization labs, 8 dialysis units, lithotripsy, in addition to 200 beds including 20 ICUs/CCUs, capacity for over 150 clinics; and a training and education conference center that includes an auditorium.

The hospital adopted the latest medical and IT systems integrating the Electronic Medical Records System in the documentation of the patients’ medical conditions and treatments.[26][27]

Construction incidents

Crane collapse

On the afternoon of Saturday, July 7, 2018, a mobile crane was dismantling one of two tower cranes at the AMC project. Mechanical failure caused the mobile crane to collapse with the tower crane it held, resulting in four moderate injuries and two damaged vehicles. Solar panels on the roof of the nearby House of Representatives building were also damaged. No damage occurred to the CMC building.

After the incident, the Greater Amman Municipality declared that it had certified a few days earlier that the mobile crane was safe to use.[28]
