The so-called Battle of Japan refer as all air-naval,air-land and air-to air enemy incursions over outer and inner territoire of Empire of Japan during WW2.
In other hand this if air defensive phase of "Great East Asian War",why occured over proper outer japanese defensive perimeter (exterior provinces) amongst proper japanese metropolitan area. such defensive operations refer from Japanese Army Air Force and Japanese Navy Air Service use of figther interceptors and other defensive aircrafts to use for both armed services of naval and land based Antiaircraft artillery between other similar measures,amongst the proper Government civil air defense of Japanese subjects in metropolitan outer/inner lands.
Such observations were not included any air or defensive operations over enemy territories or Japanese ocupied lands in Indian and Pacific Sea,Southeast Asia,Chinese held lands or Northern areas amongst Japanese allieds nations of Wangching Wei Reformed Government,Mengchiang and Manchukuo.
