Bavarian Alpine Foreland with towns, water features and ice-age deposits

The Bavarian Alpine Foreland (bayerische Alpenvorland) refers to the region of plateau and rolling foothills south of the Danube and north of the Bavarian Alps. It has been shaped under the influence of the ice ages and has a rich variety of landscape forms. Features such as the morainic hills, gravel sandar and lakes have left a record of various glaciation stages in this region.

The Bavarian Alpine Foreland is crossed by the rivers Iller, Wertach, Lech, Isar and Inn, the latter forming its boundary to the administrative district of Bavarian SwabiatoBaden-Württemberg and the eastern of the border river, the Salzach. The largest city of the region is Munich, which lies in the centre of the Alpine Foreland on the River Isar.
