Ang Yong Guan (Chinese : 洪永元 ; pinyin : Hóng Yǒng Yuán Singapore Armed Forces from 1980 to 2003, as the Chief Psychiatrist.[1]
Early life
Ang graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1979 and had his postgraduate training in psychiatry at the University of Edinburgh between 1984 and 1986.[1]
Political career
Ang contested as a Singapore Democratic Party candidate for Holland–Bukit Timah GRC at the 2011 general election where he was defeated by the People's Action Party with the results of 60.08% vs 39.92% . In 2014, he became a founding member and chairman of the now-dissolved SingFirst and contested in the Tanjong Pagar GRC in 2015 and was defeated by the People's Action Party with the results of 77.71% vs 22.29%. [2] [3]
At the 2020 general election , Ang stood in the newly created single-member constituency of Marymount as a candidate of the Progress Singapore Party and was defeated by the People's Action Party candidate with the results of 55.04% vs 44.96%.[4]
Personal life
Ang is married to an educator and together they have four children. He runs a private clinic at the Paragon Shopping Mall .[5]
Awards
In 1995, Ang was awarded the Public Service Medal (PBM) for his grassroots contributions as a community leader at Kembangan Constituency , helping then-Member of Parliament George Yeo for more than 15 years. He was also awarded the Public Administration Medal in 1996 for his military services.[1]
