Aundh is a suburb in the North-West of PuneinMaharashtra, India. It was earlier known for its Chest Hospital. Now it is known for its posh localities populated by software engineers. Since around mid-1990s it has developed significantly as a residential area with proximity to the University of Pune and one of the Software Technology Parks of India complex at Hinjawadi.

Aundh can be divided into the old Aundhgaon and the newly constructed suburban areas. Famous Areas are Sindh Colony, Parihar Chowk, Sakal Nagar, National Society and Bremen Chowk. All area along the University road, after Governor house, up to Rajiv Gandhi Bridge on river Mula, across which is Sangvi (and the Aundh Chest Hospital) in one direction and Spicer college region to Baner comes under Aundh. Sanghavi Nagar and D.P. road is the Main street region of Aundh, with most of the shops and stores located along this street. Now Aundh has Croma (A mega electronic store), Grocery Stores as More For You, Spencers, D Mart, Reliance Fresh, Restaurants like Shivsagar, Sarja, Radhika, sweets shops like Kaka Halwai, Sweets Corner, Chitale Bandhu, Titan Eye +, Dominoz, Mac Donald, Pizza Hut, Cotton King, Just Casuals, Blue Lady, Levis, Wrangler, Woodland, Hospitals like Medipoint,Kotbagi, SaiShree, Aditya Birla Clinic, SuperMarkets like Ramesh, Mamata , Pariwar, Furniture shops like HouseFull, Ekbote , Pancharatnata, Libraries like Rover Library. Aundh is blessed with Reliance Mart recently and many IT firms are also getting established like Sungard etc. Sylvan, Aloma County and Nandan are the under construction super luxurious residential sites.


History

'Aundh' formed a part of the region where the Battle of Khadki took place in 1817.

Then in the late nineties, the Khinvasara family pioneered the area with extensive buying and developing lands.

today, the area has become one of the best and up-market areas in the city

Aundh Suburb has many Schools like D.A.V.Public School, Spicer Memorial School & Collage, Triumphant Institute of Management Education Pre School,

The residential rates in this area have been driven up by the huge demand coming from IT professionals as well as migrants from various parts of the country, its close proximity to the Mumbai -Pune express way and superb connectivity to Shivaji nagar, make it more preferable to reside than other parts of the city. Aundh also has become infamous for various modern and innovative places of recreation and indulgence. The presence of a speciality food store - Fine foods, a world class gym -Golds, Air . a petrol pump, innumerable salons and grocery stores. a 4 star hotel- Seasons and a lively restaurant- Kiva. Aundh has quintessentially become a hang out spot for the teens and the teens at heart.

This place has come to be a self sustained locality , and it wouldnt be wrong to compare it to other suburban areas across the US or UK . urs
