Major USAF Installations in September 1947 at time of USAF activation as a separate United States Military Service

{{Cat exp|the [[military installations]] transferred to the [[USAF]] in [[National Security Act of 1947|September 1947 when it was established by the National Security Act passed in July]], e.g., [[Biggs Army Airfield]] became Biggs Air Force Base on 27 Sep 47.<!--{{r|AETChistory}}--> On 26 Sep "Army" had been dropped from the [[4126th Army Air Force Base Unit]]'s name at [[San Bernardino Army Airfield]] ("Army" wasn't dropped from the installation name until 24 Dec: "San Bernardino Air Field".) Most of the Army Airfields became Air Force Bases after 1947, e.g., many on 13 Jan 48 such as [[Keesler Field]], [[Mather Field]], [[Maxwell Field]], [[Patterson Field]]/"Air Force Technical Base" (former [[Wright Field]]), & [[Westover Field]]. Airfields closed during the Army-to-Air Force transition planning that performed AAF personnel cuts<!--{{r|AETChistory}}{{rp|60}}--> included [[Indian Springs Army Airfield]] (Jan 47), [[Enid Field]] (31 Jan), and [[Goodfellow Field]] (1 May)}}
