Charles Knapp (October 8, 1797 - May 14, 1880) was a U.S. Representative from New York, father of Charles J. Knapp.

Born in Colchester, New York, Knapp was educated at home and later attended the common schools. He engaged in agricultural pursuits. He taught school in Delaware County. He engaged in mercantile pursuits in 1825. He served as member of the State assembly in 1841. He moved to Deposit, New York, in 1848 and organized a bank in 1854 and subsequently became its president.

Knapp was elected as a Republican to the Forty-first Congress (March 4, 1869-March 3, 1871) from New York's 19th congressional district.[1] He was not a candidate for renomination in 1870. He resumed banking. He died in Deposit, New York, on May 14, 1880. He was interred in Laurel Bank Cemetery.
