David Catling is an astrobiologist and a professor at the University of Washington. His research focuses on understanding the differences between the evolution of planets and their atmospheres. Along with James Kasting, he is coauthor of the upcoming book "Atmospheric Evolution on Inhabited and Lifeless Worlds". One of his studies showed that Earth's increase in oxygen occurred in fits and starts spread over about 100 million years. [1]
