The third season of Fargo, an American anthology black comedy–crime drama television series created by Noah Hawley, is scheduled to premiere on April 19, 2017, on the basic cable network FX.[1] Its principal cast consists of Ewan McGregor, Carrie Coon, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, David Thewlis and Jim Gaffigan. The season will consist of ten episodes. As an anthology, each Fargo season possesses its own self-contained narrative, following a disparate set of characters in various settings, albeit in a connected shared universe.[2]
The third season is set in Minnesota in 2010. Hawley said, "There are going to be connections, the way the first year was connected to the movie and the second year was connected to the first".[2] In the season, McGregor plays the dual lead roles of Emmit and Ray Stussy, Emmit being the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, a handsome, self-made, real estate mogul and family man, while his younger balding and pot-bellied brother, Ray is now a parole officer, and has a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he’s been dealt, and he blames Emmit for his misfortunes.[3]
Season 3 began filming in early 2017 in Calgary, Alberta.[4]
