The Glocal University is a private and coeducational institution located in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is a private semi-residential university created under the state government private university act. The university is a non-profit university established by the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2011(U.P. Act no. 2 of 2012) (as passed by the Uttar Pradesh Legislature). It is recognized by UGC (University Grant Commission).[1] It is situated in the foothills of Shivalik mountains, away from crowded urban towns but close to cities like New Delhi and Dehradun. The university offers 35 post graduate/professional courses under seven major schools.

Vision

The name of the university was inspired by the concept of ‘think globally and act locally’. It was set up with the aim of providing international class education with a local flower. It was designed as an educational system that is rooted to its past but has a modern and holistic outlook, focusing on making a generation better equipped to deal with their own future or with their society.

Location

Global’s campus is spread across 300 acres in the quiet Shivalik foothills, offering the perfect blend of state-of-the-art infrastructure and natural surroundings. The university is approximately a two hour drive away from the Jolly Grant Airport and is situated close to the urban industrial cities of Saharanpur and Dehradun. Global University is a part of the Grand Peak Group and is strategically located on the Dehradun- Saharanpur road and offering an evolved approach to education.

On 27 August 2013, Dr. Amir Ullah Khan discussed economics in India as a panelist in Washington, DC.

Dr Amir Ullah Khan, a notable economist and a Senior Policy Adviser with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is the President of the The Global University. The academic council consists of Dr. Kashi Balachandran,[2] Dr. Rajiv Kumar,[3] Syed Safawi.[4] and Dr Debabrata Goswami. On 27 August 2013, in Washington, DC, Dr. Khan gave a lecture at the US-India Policy Institute on "Indian Economic Growth Patterns, Impact on Poverty and Sustainable Global Partnerships".[5]

The institute has seven major schools in technology, business, computer science, education & research, legal studies & research, media & cultural studies and commerce. Each of these schools have various courses to offer.

The curriculum allows students to switch from one course to another and also pick a subject of their interest from another discipline. This is to ensure flexibility and exposure to learning. The university has a placement cell headed by Indrajit Gupta. Other members of the cell consist of IIM alumni and distinguished individuals from industrial, media and legal sectors. Internships with noted Indian and international companies and exchange programs with foreign universities offer students a first hand experience of global trends. The institute has strong ties with people having rich experience in corporate sector. The university’s advisory group constitutes of various policy makers, experts and experienced people from respective disciplines.

Library

The library is the central hub of the university, well-equipped to support and facilitate teaching, learning and research programs. Besides having a huge collection of books on engineering, science and bioinformatics, humanities and social sciences, mass communication, it also offers CD/DVDs and research publications. The university is also in process of establishing a tie up with major global libraries, accessed through an online portal.

Laboratories

Practical experiments are just as significant as theoretical studies; therefore the university makes sure that it provides the students with the best infrastructure and state-of-the-art laboratories that are well-stocked and equipped with the latest technology. The institute makes sure that all students have access to adequate sets of experimental setups and tools in order to encourage them to work on their own. Students are allowed to work at flexible hours provided they book their lab time in advance.

Hostel Facilities

The Glocal University offers separate in campus hostels for boys and girls. The overall capacity for each hostel is 1030. Each room is equipped with a bed, a study table, study chair and an almirah. The rooms are air-conditioned and provide an amiable, pollution-free environment. It has round-the-clock security, with stringent safety procedures and comfortable apartments. Keeping in mind the growing concerns of parents, special emphasis has been laid down on the safety and security of girl hostlers, in particular. A warden and a security guard are present round the clock to ensure well-being and safety. A complain box has been installed to ensure a regular feedback plus guarantee safety for girls. The university makes sure that each complaint is dealt seriously and appropriate measures are taken against the offender. Surveillance cameras have also been installed to keep a watch on illegal activities and theft. During the night more number of security guards patrols the area to ensure safety around the campus.

Other facilities offered in the hostel are Wi-Fi internet, television sets in common rooms, uninterrupted power supply, gymnasium facilities, medical facilities and bank facility with ATM counters.

Sports Facilities

The institutes provide for a sports environment that matches international standards and gives a truly global experience to all the students. There are multiple sport facilities to keep our students engaged and physically fit. There is basketball court, football court, volleyball court, cricket ground, running track and swimming pool. The lush green lawns and well maintained landscape is an add on for students.
