Goostrey is a village in central Cheshire, in Congleton borough. It is located off J18 of the M6 and is near to the Jodrell Bank Observatory. The site has been occupied for some time, receiving a mention in Domesday Book.

Goostrey has three shops, "The Trading Post", known locally as "The Trader", The Post Office and Nige's Newsagent. There is also a hairdresser and a butcher in the village as well as two pubs which keep the population of recovering alcoholics happy.

The woods at the edge of the village, known as "The Bongs" feature in Alan Garner's play "Holly from the Bongs".

The village was the feature of a t.v. documentary in the 1970's called "The Village".

Goostrey recently shot to fame as the location of many scarecrows, as a competition was held to see who had the best scarecrow. There is a very popular local tradition of Gooseberry growing, as can be witnessed in the annual Gooseberry competition which attracts people from far and wide to marvel at the skill of the cultivators.

Goostrey is also home to a religious sect, "The Dorisians" led by a reclusive leader known simply as "Doris". They are rumoured to have many unique customs, however as noone has ever managed to break away from the sect, these rumours can not be confirmed. Even to talk of such matters is to invite the Goddess's displeasure. There have been incidents.

Goostrey is very near Holmes Chapel.

There is a famous footballer called Matthew Davies who is a full back for Shrewsbury Town who also lives in Goostrey.
