The Granai Incident refers to the killing of a large number of Afghan civilians during an aerial bombardment of the village of Granai, south of Herat, Afghanistan.[1] It took place on May 4, 2009, during an US air strike where according to the Pentagon errors had been made.[2][3]
The Afghan government said that around 140 civilians had been killed in the bombing what would make it the deadliest incident involving civilians since the conflict began in 2001.[4] Other sources confirm that more than 100 non-combatants had been killed. [5] American official claim the number of civilian casualties is much lower.[6] Recently American official said the number of casualties will never be known.[7] An investigation has been launched but the results have not been released to the public yet.[8]
