A small city in the south of Mexico, state of Oaxaca, region Istmo de Tehuantepec. Ixtepec used to be an important railway center point, but nowadays no passenger trains traffic Ixtepec and the main employers are the Mexican army and the Pepsi factory. Ixtepec is located west of Juchitán, El Espinal and Ixtaltepec. Spanish is the main language, Zapoteco is spoken to a lesser extent than in e.g. Juchitán and Ixtaltepec. However, the name of the city is Zapotec and means "white hill" or "behind the hill", probably referring to the hill between Ixtepec and Ixtaltepec.
