Jack Hobbs (born 18 August 1988inPortsmouth) is a professional English football player, currently playing for Liverpool.

From Moulton, a small village near Spalding, Lincolnshire, Hobbs played for Moulton Harrox from the age of 10. The former Spalding Grammar School student left Moulton Harrox a few years later when he joined Lincoln City. Whilst at Lincoln City he was allowed to play for Spalding Athletic for one season at under 14.

At the age of just 16, Hobbs, a defender, made his league debut in the 2004/2005 season coming off the bench to play just 3 minutes of League 2 football at home for Lincoln City, in the 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers.

Hobbs moved from Lincoln City to Liverpool for an undisclosed amount of money on 2 August 2005 after spending a trial there. As part of the deal, the five-time European champions went to Sincil Bank on August 16, 2006 for the first time since the 1960/61 season, in the old Second Division.

He made his Liverpool reserves debut at the age of 16 in a mini-derby with Everton and signed a three-year professional contract with the Merseyside club on his seventeenth birthday after initially agreeing to a pre-contract with the club.

The young defender played the 2005-2006 season in the centre of midfield for the reserves having been put there by Paco Herrera. Hobbs has also captained the Reserves Team since David Raven went on loan to Tranmere Rovers, as a reward for his consistent performances in an unfamiliar role this so far this season.

Hobbs also played an important role in helping to win the FA Youth Cup against Manchester City in the 2005/06.

During the summer of 2006, Hobbs made his first appearances for the first team in friendly matches against Crewe and Wrexham, before going on tour of Switzerland with the first team. He endured a nightmare match against Kaiserslauten that Liverpool lost 3-2 with Hobbs at fault for some of the goals although he did redeem himself a few days later when he was one of only a select few to come out of a 2-0 defeat to Zǖrich club Grasshopper with any credibility.

Hobbs was described by Jamie Carragher as the "nicest guy in the world ... maybe a little too nice".

On Saturday 28th April 2007, Hobbs was named amongst the substitutes for the first time in Liverpool's Premiership match against Portsmouth at Fratton Park, however he did not make it onto the pitch.

Hobbs also went on to represent England at under 19 level on 3 occasions at the end of the 2006/07 season.

He was expected to start the game against Reading in the Carling Cup on the 25th September 2007, but he started on the bench and came on to make his first-team debut as a late substitute in a 4-2 win. Hobbs later made his first full debut with Liverpool against Cardiff City in the Carling Cup on the 31 October 2007, playing all 90 minutes. His first cap in the Premier League with Liverpool came when he replaced Jamie Carragher at 51 minutes on the 2 December 2007 win against Bolton.
