Kanpur City Transport Services LimitedorKanpur Metropolitan Bus Service (KMBS) is a committee responsible for running buses within the Kanpur metropolitan area. KMBS has a fleet of 300 modern low-floor buses, both with and without air conditioning,^[1] that serve many parts of the sprawling metropolitan area. KMBS, formerly known as 'Mahanagar Bus Seva' (Hindi), was founded on 6 July 1922.^[2]

History

The metropolitan bus service started on 6 July 1922. The city bus service was then started in 2004.

Routes

The following table lists all of the KMBS city bus routes, including private bus routes.^[1]

Electric buses

The Indian government's think tank, NITI Aayog, has proposed the operation of electric low-floor AC city buses on different routes in the city by 2020.^[3]

Here are some route suggestions for electric city buses:

• Kanpur Central/Cantt Side-Rail Bazar-Cantonment Hospital/Mirpur Cantt-Times of India/MG Park-Noronha Crossing-LIC Building-Phool Bagh-Reserve Bank of India-Bada Chauraha-Naveen Market/Landmark-Parade-Lal Imli Mill-Chunniganj Bus Station-Palika Stadium-Emerald Garden-Company Bagh-Nawabganj Jama Masjid-Azad Nagar/Vishnupuri-Allen Forest Zoo-KDA Signature-Vikas Nagar Bus Depot

Airport bus service

KMBS has decided to operate AC Buses from areas far from airport and not easily accessible from Airport with wide roads. The route is as follows:-

• Kalianpur Railway Station
• Kanpur University Gate
• Gurudev Crossing
• Vikas Nagar Bus Depot
• Vishnupuri
• Company Bagh Crossing
• Gastro Liver Hospital
• Moti Jhil Crossing
• GSVM Medical College

• Mariampur Hospital
• Chawla Crossing
• Nirala Nagar
• Gaushala Road Crossing
• Naubasta Crossing
• (via Bypass Flyover)
• (U Turn after End of Flyover near Chakeri)
• (U turn near Axis Bank ATM Ahirwan)
• Airport

Kanpur tourist buses

Together with the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department, KCTSL has proposed the operation of low-floor tourist buses on the following route (reverse route also available):

• Kanpur Central/Cantt Side – All Souls Memorial Church – Massacre Ghat – King Edward Memorial – Nana Rao Park – Sarsaiyya Ghat – Portuguese Cemetery – Green Park Stadium – Naveen Market – Lal Imli Mills – Allen Forest Zoo – Ganga Barrage/Botanical Garden – Moti Jheel – JK Temple – Buddha Park – Blue World Theme Park – Bithoor

These buses will operate at the frequency of one per hour. The buses will start running from 9:00 a.m. with the last bus at 7:00 p.m. (on both up and reverse routes).
