Vaughan was drafted by the New York Giants. He played 3 seasons as a Giant. He went on to have the backup spot at RT on the depth chart. He was released after the 1979 season.

He was signed by the Washington Redskins on September 11, 1980. He played one game as the Redskins starter at right tackle before getting injured seriously. He was placed on IR for the 1980 season. The Redskins released him, and his football career was over.
