DrStamatios (Tom) M. Krimigis is a scientist who has done a lot of work for space exploration . He directed most of space programs with robotic spacecrafts wich explored (and still explore) our solar system. He is a specialist in solar, interplanetary and magnetospheric physics. He was born in 1938 in VrontadosofChios, Greece and he finised the local high school . After he went to the USA where he studed at University of Minnesota (Bachelor of Physics, 1961) and at University of Iowa (M.S. , 1963 and Ph.D. , 1965 in Physics) He has the Head Emeritus, Space Department Applied physics Laboratory The Johns Hopkins University Laurel, MD, USA and he is a member of Academy of Athens, where he has the Chair of Science of Space, Athens, Greece . He is Principal Investigator on the NASA-ESA Cassini-Huygens mission to Saturn and Titan, 1990-present , on Voyager 1 and 2 Spacecraft , on Explorer 47 and Explorer 50 . He is Co-Principal Investigator on ESA-NASA Ulysses solar polar orbiter 1978-present ,on MESSENGER , on Geotail , on ACE and on New Horizons mission . Also he was Co-Principal Investigator on NASA Galileo mission to Jupiter, 1977-2003 and Co-Investigator with J. A. Van Allen on the University of Iowa Particle Experiments on NASA Mariner 3, 4 (toMars) and Mariner 5 (toVenus) The I.A.U. in 1999 named asteroid 8323 Krimigis, (previously 1979 UH) to honor him.
