Perhaps the table with the champions/finals etc. could be broken up into two tables to more clearly identify the pre-champions league finals and those after the competition changed? -Mike 'TinTin'
The success of the Asian Club Championship led, in 1991, to the creation of the Asian Cup Winners’ Cup and, four years later, the Asian Super Cup which saw the winners of the two competitions meet. I read from the A-League_06-07 article that the Australia representatives for each year will be the previous year's premiers and champions, not the current year, giving a one-year lag. Is this the same for other teams wrt their respective leagues or is Australia unusual in this? Pimlottc 04:08, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
has the AFC Champions league increasing to 32 teams for 2006 been confirmed because I watched Total Football on FoxSports in Australia last night (10 Nov 2005), and they have said it will be very unlikly that a A-league team will be included for the champions league for 2006 because the a-league champions are not decided untill march 2006 and the draw made up for the AFC Champions league is done in december , they said it was still possible but very unlikly that the A-league teams will not be added untill 2007

Its now looking like the new format will start in 2007 --Tancred

Look http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Football_Championship , they don't have 3rd place anymore, but they still use 3rd place, and even 4th place in the all-time ranking, so don't remove the 3rd place just cause you don't like the results, 3rd place is used in ranking everywhere. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kurdo777 (talk • contribs) 22:38, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
there was a 3rd place between 1971 to 2002, you can't determine value for it —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kurdo777 (talk • contribs) 22:57, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know the group stage is designed to stay at 32 teams, but wouldn't it be more appropriate to use the total number of teams that are accepted into the competition, i.e. include the teams that were knocked out in the playoff stage(s)? As it is right now, it's hiding all recent growth. CyMoahk2 (talk) 18:28, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I created an SVG version of the map. I thought I'd let the other editors take a look at it first. If no one objects, I'll put the image in the article where the PNG version currently is.

According to AFC, AFC Champions League doesn't succeeded Asian Club Championship's record. AFC isn't UEFA. http://prd-afc-en.deltatre.net/afc/documents/pdffiles/afc-champions-league-2019-media-guide
And by the way, you cannot simply delete everything prior 2002 from all articles (including sources) without moving it to ANY other article on the Wikipedia. Snowflake91 (talk) 09:38, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Stop creating separate tables and stats for 2003-present, all reliable sources (RSSSF, globalsportsarchive.com, soccerway, worldfootball etc.) have one single list of winners for 1967-2020 and we will also use this format per common sense and reliable sources, UEFA doesnt have two different tables either just because the competition rebranded and renamed in 1991. But afc also mentioned this point on afc website. And recognizes the champions of the previous season as the Asian champions, not the tonnage champions of the Asian Champions League Chivasguadalajara1 (talk) 21:18, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The AFC website can be the most reliable source in this case Chivasguadalajara1 (talk) 21:27, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I believe it should be added to the article.
This table is statistical. Since 2002–03 AFC Champions League there will be no bronze medal match and the losers of the semifinals will be considered third.
