The Italian occupation of the Dahlak Archipelago.[edit]
The Dahlak Archipelago were taken by the Italian Cap. De Libero, in the name of H. M. Umberto I. King of Italy, on June 8, 1885.
The naval battle of the Dahlak Archipelago (1940).[edit]
During WWII, on October 20, 1940, a naval battle took place in the waters of the Dahlak Archipelago between British ships (1 cruiser, 1 destroyer, 5 torpedo-boats) and the Italian ships (4 destroyers): close to the island of Armil the British destroyer "Kimberley" sunk the Italian destroyer "Francesco Nullo": cap. Borsini and a sailor (Ciaravolo)decided to sink with the ship.
