Offensive article

The title of this article implies that the deaths of the many people who died in this conflict who are not listed are not notable. Really? Toddst1 (talk) 13:40, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unless you want to create some type of controversy, this can be solved with "this is a incomplete list", tag. Do you agree.Mr.User200 (talk) 13:45, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

The criteria for inclusion of only existing En-WP Bio articles been discussed in the past on Casualties of the Russo Ukrianian War article. Is not necessary since, this article is a list of notable deaths in each of the two combatants states, Ukraine and Russia. English relevancy is not a matter of criteria of inclusion. Mr.User200 (talk) 13:41, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's a tricky one. Do they rate articles on other Wikipedias? - David Gerard (talk) 16:41, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Definition

While editing the article, I have noticed a very inconsistent definition of what notable is. Numerous soldiers, ranked junior officers and below, were listed, especially on the Ukrainian side. After reading their pages on Ukrainian Wikipedia, I was not able to figure out what exactly is noteworthy about these particular soldiers as opposed to many others just like them. I understand the desire of some people to honor fallen heroes by elevating them to "notable" status, or, on the contrary, the desire to exaggerate the enemy's casualties by listing the death of their soldiers as notable. However, if this standard is applied, the list would contain thousands of names and would serve no purpose.

I suggest some sort of consistent standard: for instance, soldiers (with the exception of the Navy) with a rank of captain and below should not be listed unless there is something particularly noteworthy that makes them stand out (e.g. they were famous before the war as civilians or did something that made national/international headlines). Soldiers with a rank of major and lieutenant colonel should be listed with caution, provided there is ample information about them online and they commanded at least a regiment-sized unit. Colonels and above should generally be listed no matter what. Is this fair? Data_monkey18 (talk) 00:02, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notable civilian-soldiers

Currently in the article, the list of military casualties contains both casualties that were noteworthy for military reasons (e.g. generals, decorated unit commanders, etc.) and those that were noteworthy for non-military reasons but who died as soldiers, particularly on the Ukrainian side (e.g. athletes, actors, etc. who ended up joining the army). Should there be two separate sections for this - one for "true" notable military casualties and one for notable civilians who were killed in action? British volunteers

This sources makes a short list of British volunteers killed in Ukraine. Yug (talk) 🐲 14:03, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Typo

There is a typo in the section "Russian and DPR/LPR military":

"Bato Basanov, and Alexey Bakulo had all diedin Ukraine killed in Ukraine" Ruyfel (talk) 10:01, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 27 March 2024

Hello,

In the section called "Ukrainian military", please can we change the wording in the 2024 section as the additions looks a mess. I have re-written them so that they are grammatically correct, as well as added new additions. I have also removed one addition as they didn't have a wikipedia article and the article linked didn't say they were notable.

Please can the below be added to the current section, and the incorrect section removed:

    .Nationality or War Affiliation

Nationality - I understand that this is a list of notable deaths on both sides, but war related articles usually include the nationality of individuals, or at least which side they are/were on. This is the case for mentions of persons who are alive as of the upload date as well as those who have died during ths war.

There is certainly a lot that can be said against this practice, but this is how morbidity & mortality have been recorded and reported for several centuries, possibly millenia. Ileanadu (talk) 12:51, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
