In the beginning of the second paragraph below Views on charity and market regulation "Fried" is misspelled as "Friend" Bratcow (talk) 19:00, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Alleged fraudster

Do we use these alleged titles in a WP:BLP? Like this. I'm not disputing the allegation, i'm wondering what we do here. We didnt seem to use it here at the Elizabeth Holmes article. I just picked an arbitrary backdated article version. Thanks. Jtbobwaysf (talk) 06:06, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

See MOS:ALLEGED: alleged and accused are appropriate when wrongdoing is asserted but undetermined, such as with people awaiting or undergoing a criminal trial.      — Freoh 14:36, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Under "Arrest and Charges", the link to "Lewis Kaplan" leads to an article about a violinist with the same name. The link should lead to the article for Lewis A. Kaplan, the US district judge. JustaCatGirl (talk) 03:58, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion: mention fraud in the opening sentence

Currently, a google search results for "Samuel Bankman Fried" include an "About" sidebar, sourced from Wikipedia, which includes the opening sentence from this Wikipedia article ("Samuel Benjamin Bankman-Fried, also known by the initials SBF, is an American entrepreneur and investor.") and a few biographical facts (dob, parents, education). This is misleading, because this portrays SBF as, well, an American entrepreneur and investor, with no mention of the charges he is facing and the (alleged) fraud he has perpetuated.

I think it would be more accurate if the opening line were clear about the nature of SBF's work. For example, the sidebar I see when googling "Bernie Madoff" is very to the point: "Bernard Lawrence Madoff was an American fraudster and financier who was the mastermind of the largest Ponzi scheme in history, worth about $64.8 billion. He was at one time chairman of the Nasdaq stock exchange"

Of course, SBF was only charged with fraud, so his opening line would look different, perhaps something along the lines of "Samuel Benjamin Bankman-Fried, also known by the initials SBF, is an American entrepreneur and investor, indicted on multiple criminal fraud charges."

In summary, I would propose that the opening line is more explicit of the current state of SBF's accomplishments, so fewer people are misled. What do folks think about this?

I am happy to think / propose better phrasing, and propose / submit the change, if that helps.

Thank you! Markmark206 (talk) 03:43, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
