What about the famous game of chess?

Isn't there a story that locals tell about Col. Titus winning the rights to name the town by winning a game of chess or something like that? I know I've heard that story from a number of different people over the years, but don't know if it's factual or just a widespread urban myth. In either case, since the story is so widespread by the locals, it is worth mentioning in the Wiki page either way.

As someone who grew up in Titusville, I can confirm the "legend" is widespread.

Well it is actually a domino game not chess but chess is still popular. Parker1297 (talk) 13:27, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've heard it many times without variation--lived here for 18 years.

Greater Titusville

I suppose someone could start a "Greater Titusville" section but you have to keep statistics and facts straight. What is city government and city census and what you're including from the "Greater T'ville" area. Also, it's T'ville-Cocoa-Melb-OB that's the Metropolitan area recognized by the government. Anyway...Student7 12:44, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Space City, USA

I couldn't find any direct references to Titusville as "Space City, USA". I did, however, find many identifying Houston, Texas as such (including its Wikipedia article). Can anyone confirm its use to identify Titusville? Culicidae (talk) 20:48, 29 June 2009 (UTC) I live hear and I can say with the utmost certainty that no one calls Titusville by this name... though I do like it, lol.[reply]

Notables references

A registered editor made a number of great improvements to the article. Thanks!

I do disagree, however, that an editor has to go to another article to verify bios that may (or may not) say that the notable has actually lived in Titusville. IMO, articles ought to be stand-alone, each having their own group of interested editors and quality. Therefore, a footnote, if seemingly valid, should be copied here. (usually there is no footnote in bio. Just a bald statement as to residence). Just my thought. Student7 (talk) 19:46, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

City recognition

An editor removed mention of the city recognizing student academic performance. I thought this was unique enough to leave as a one-sentence fact. Not done that often and articles are supposed to be about uniqueness after all. One sentence is hardly WP:UNDUE.Student7 (talk) 20:05, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know anything about it, but it looks like it's a big thing judging from all the schools that participate. As long as it's not getting a disproportionate amount of coverage, I don't see why it can't stay. Culicidae (talk) 14:52, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hall of Fame not in Titusville?

I am not convinced that the hall of fame has any connection with titusville, short of having its mail delivered from there, and (like everyone else in the north county) having its water and sewage supplied by the city. Student7 (talk) 19:51, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Astronaut Hall of Fame is on the west side of the river near Space Coast Regional Airport. Although I'm not 100% sure it is within the city limits, having a postal address of Titusville seems to be a legitimate connection. The other businesses on Vectorspace Blvd. also have Titusville addresses. RadioBroadcast (talk) 04:33, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
