The soundtrack of the film was composed by Jeet Gannguli, while the screenplay and dialogues was written by N.K Salil. Tiger marks the 6th collaboration between Mithun Chakraborty and Swapan Saha, who together did MLA Fatakeshto (2006)also based on political and social issues. The film is considered to be one of the finest performances by Chakraborty as well as films in his filmography. It was a blockbuster at the box office and completed a successful run consisting of 110 days in theatres. It also received a number of positive reviews upon it's release. Critics particularly noted the background score by S.P Venkatesh, which played a pivotal role in the film during the mass sequences; Chakraborty and Rajatava Dutta's performance; catchy dialogues and social issues portrayed in it. It was enlisted as one of the highest grossing Bengali films of 2007.

Released in 2015, the Akshay Kumar starrer Hindi film Gabbar Is Back, in spite of being a remake of the Tamil film Ramanaa, had some scenes copied from both Tiger and MLA Fatakeshto.
