Hello, everyone. I am Codename Noreste and I fight vandalism, spam, and sometimes long-term abusers on the English Wikipedia. In addition, I am also active on other large and small-scale projects; you'll find me active on the Simple English and Spanish Wikipedias, and Meta-Wiki.
In addition, I am active on several test wikis, where I go under the same name on The Test Wiki, and Norte instead of Noreste on Test Wiki.
Who are you?
In addition to being a Wikipedian here and across all projects, I am also a dude attending college.
I first started to edit Wikipedia by creating my user page, with some userboxes and some text. My second edit included this diff that some people may call this a mistake, but I was a very new user at the time and I was trying to help the project, rather than just harm it. After installing RedWarn, it made my life so much easier when reverting vandalism and spam, but sometimes (and rarely) I make some kind of mistake by accident.
I previously edited under the username 64andtim on this account, and you may call me Codename Noreste, Codename, Noreste or simply CN; any accounts whose names start with Codename aren't likely going to be operated by me.
What is your work on this wiki?
Counter-vandalism/spam/LTAs
I use Huggle to fight obvious vandalism and spam, Twinkle for a variety of tasks, and SWViewer on my iPhone to fight said vandalism and spam, but I also use it to combat cross-wiki vandalism and spam as well.
When I got rollback enabled on my account, I've started using tools and scripts that require rollback to fight vandalism and spam much easier and faster than if I were to manually revert or undo such edits. I use Selective Rollback to massively revert a user's edits (mass/rapid vandalism or spam), add an edit summary when I revert, and others. Next, I became a pending changes reviewer, which allows me to review and revert edits on pages protected by pending changes. My CVUA training page can be found here, and while you might see some errors I have made, that training greatly enhanced my ability to identify vandalism in which it requires my judgment and senses.
For other stuff that's related to vandalism and spam, sometimes I encounter grossly offensive/libelous or promotional usernames (both would obviously have to be reported if they do their stuff which includes vandalism or promotional edits that I have to revert). When dealing with cross-wiki vandalism and spam, I use SWViewer and the abuse filter log on Meta-Wiki.
For long-term abusers, I know some of them and I can tell by their activities and habits. While reverting their edits, I deny recognition to them (and even blank their talk pages). Sometimes, when they vandalize other projects, I report them to SRG and revert their edits, if I can find any. Anyway, on the English Wikipedia, there is a specific LTA on the list that may sometimes make me lose my calm a little, and they were banned by the Wikimedia Foundation as of this year.
If somebody claims to be me and asks you to create an article in exchange for money, don't accept their offer at all as it is a scam; the same goes for someone impersonating me and soliciting paid editing work just for you; you should forward the evidence directly to paid-en-wpwikipedia.org for AfC scams, or legalwikimedia.org for paid editing work claims.
Speedy deletions
For speedy deletions, I mostly tag promotional user pages under G11 and other user pages/sandboxes that apply under U5.
Edit filters
I respond to false positives from edit filters on Wikipedia:Edit filter/False positives/Reports, and participate at the edit filter noticeboard. I would highly recommend using FilterDebugger if you want to debug on what caused false positives, or to test some conditions and/or regex without being an edit filter helper or manager. I use it to create filters and to test said new filters for true or false positives/negatives, especially to track vandals.
Questions and answers for me
Have you been blocked?
I was blocked for one week because somebody thought I engaged in a good and bad hand sockpuppetry situation, but that wasn't the case at all; that LTA made multiple accounts to impersonate me and other users, and they were all blocked indefinitely but that included me (blocked for one week) and my alternative account (blocked indefinitely). Hours later, both of my legitimate accounts were unblocked per some discussion about my block on my talk page. You may wish to view my block log if you want.
Anyway, goodbye to my no-block streak.
Have you done paid editing?
I have never edited Wikipedia for pay, and I will never plan to do so in the future, unless if stated otherwise.
If you want to leave me a message, I will be more than happy to respond to your message on my my user talk page, or if you have any sensitive concerns, emailing me is preferred (as with other human editors, I may sometimes make mistakes). If you leave me a message in Spanish, I will reply in that language in my talk page here or on the Spanish Wikipedia.
One more thing, I am a mentor, and if you are a new user in need of help, don't hesitate to ask me on my talk page.
Congratulations from both myself and all of the instructors at the Counter Vandalism Unit Academy, on your successful completion of my CVUA instruction and graduation from the Counter Vandalism Unit Academy. You completed your final exam with 91%. Well done and congratulations again. If you chose to request rollback, you may link your lessons here on your request. A plate of Dosa for you
Here is a plate of Dosa for you. Dosa is a South Indian food and is a fermented crepe or pancake made from rice batter and black lentils. Hope you'll like it. For your anti-vandal work. Thank you.
Thanks for all you do in counter-vandalism... keep it going! Volten001☎ 10:11, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
The Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
Thank you for reverting all of that disruption made by SophiaS333. You were extremely quick with catching it all, which in turn keeps Wikipedia accurate, reliable, and healthy. Wikipedia needs contributors like you, and I really hope that you stay with us for many years in the long-term. I created my account when I was bored in the High School library during class, and I was disruptive too (seriously, look at my first contributions). At the time, I never imagined that, almost 17 years later, I'd be who I am on Wikipedia to this day. Please keep up the great work, and if you enjoy what you're doing here, PLEASE take off your jacket and stay awhile. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk)(contribs) 04:52, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for reverting that mass ping on that SPI case I opened! Seawolf35 (talk) 00:11, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
