DYK for Balkan terrapin

On20 November 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Balkan terrapin, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that hatchling Balkan terrapins are only 3 to 4 centimetres (1.2 to 1.6 in) in length, while adults (example pictured) can grow as long as 25 cm (9.8 in)? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Balkan terrapin. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Balkan terrapin), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

That edit you undid as "unexplained" is actually easily explanable: inter-sectarian harassment. Unfortunately, the IPv6 pool is large and highly dynamic. I'm going to semi-protect the page for a month, but it surely won't stop [religion or sect 1] from trying to use WP to heap insults on [religion or sect 2]. Clarify one thing

@Edward-Woodrow:, I am here to clarify on one thing. I am not the creator of the article Kim Myung-soo (admiral). It was originally created by User:Sqm00701. I dun understand how i suddenly became the creator. I tend to edit and create articles of major crimes (mostly singaporean) and k-pop stuff. might wanna need help to clear my name NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 15:50, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@NelsonLee20042020: Sorry if you got a notification for the BLPPROD; because of your draftification, you're marked as the technical creator of the page (because Sqm00701 rewrote the article after you moved it), so Twinkle notified you. Edward-Woodrow (talk) 15:54, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well for now, i have not received any notification but I am shocked to see my XTools listing the article inside my list of articles created, which really gave me a nasty fright, because I want to clear this misunderstanding the system have on me. But yeah thanks for the clarification. --NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 15:57, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And by the way, @Edward-Woodrow:, how will i remove this from the list and let the system know i am not the creator? This is certainly a lesson needed to be learnt for Sqm00701 but it unnecessarily and for no reason left an undesirable mark on my record so far NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 15:59, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you can, but it's not like its a blemish on your record or something. If someone is really looking your contribs that closely, then they'll notice you didn't write the article, and no-one scrutinizes other people's XTools like that. Besides, if the article is deleted, I think it will be removed. Edward-Woodrow (talk) 16:01, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Understand. I have checked further and I found out his content in the article space and draftspace are technically the same, meaning he had copy paste into the page before he made any major changes needed to the article. So I had restored the redirect to the draft version and already informed him to edit it before he can move it from draftspace NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 16:07, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification by the way. But hope you would not take offence at me taking matters in my hand. I am trying to do what I believe to be in good faith for the guy; he does have a sort of passion in making content in wikipedia though, he just require some working on. NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 16:09, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A pinch of salt

Hello, Edward. I saw your message to me suggesting salting some titles repeatedly created by a sockpuppeteer. However, my experience is that it is actually unhelpful to salt titles in this situation. Since the person in question has created several pages several times, coming back with new sockpuppets after each one is blocked, they are almost certainly going to come back and do the same again, and the only effect of salting would be to force them to find new titles for the pages. We can easily watchlist the old titles, but we can't watchlist every conceivable new title they may possibly think up, so salting stands to make it harder to catch them next time. I have seen that happen quite often over the years: a persistent sockpuppeteer has been repeatedly caught fairly soon, until some administrator decides to salt titles, and then they create sockpuppets which manage to stay undetected for long periods. Also, you can't put the genie back in the bottle: once they realise that making up new titles each time helps them to evade scrutiny, they carry on doing that even if no more salting takes place, so just salting even one title can be very counterproductive. JBW (talk) 12:07, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, that makes sense. Thank-you. Edward-Woodrow (talk) 15:02, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Hi!

Noticed you changed your username from Edward-Woodrow. May I ask why? Just curious. No hate intended.

Anyways, have a good day, Cremastra :) QuickQuokka [talkcontribs] 08:32, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. I changed it because "Edward-Woodrow" wasn't obviously a pseudonym, so I wanted to head off any confusion. Cremastra (talk) 21:04, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I would save humorous nominations like those for a more appropriate time like April Fool's. The Night Watch (talk) 18:20, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You're probably right, but if humour is predictable and comes at the "correct" time then it isn't humour. A little fun goes a long way. Cremastra (talk) 18:26, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Speaking with my 'crat hat on, RfA is one of the few places where something like April Fool's is the only time we allow such frivolity. I cannot force you to G7 it but I would ask that you do so. Primefac (talk) 20:12, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just deleted it before noticing this discussion. This sort of thing is just not on. Graham87 (talk) 02:58, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for December 13

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Matai Pukhiri, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Tipra. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Israel-Hamas war map

I think that for the duration of the conflict, the map should be displayed in the infobox, as it rapidly changes and informs the readers of the ongoing situation. However, once the conflict is over, predictably with Israel in full control of Gaza, I think it will be more appropriate to add a gallery of images to the infobox. Ecrusized (talk) 09:32, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Ecrusized: OK, that's reasonable. Thanks for leaving a message here. Cremastra (talk) 20:52, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Freestyle, or Latin freestyle (initially called Latin hip hop) is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in the New York metropolitan area, Boston, Philadelphia, and Miami, primarily among Hispanic Americans, Irish Americans, and Italian Americans in the 1980s. It experienced its greatest popularity from the late 1980s until the early 1990s. A common theme of freestyle lyricism originated as heartbreak in an urban environment typified by New York City. 69.115.130.88 (talk) 01:44, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That's interesting to know. Thanks! Cremastra (talk) 02:19, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
