Link to the bot
Hi, I came here to say that it would be nice if, when you click on the image which says that it's been placed there by gnome bot, you'd see a prominent link to the bot. It's a bit sneaky that some anonymous gnome is going around stealing images from talk pages, leaving a calling card without a link.. ;-)

Also, now that I happened to come by, I saw the text "Even if you uploaded the image yourself, if it is copyrighted by someone else, you do not have the right of displaying it in a gallery on your userpage." I believe this is wrong; I haven't seen a policy which forbids placing free images made by others on your user page. Note that "a free, copyrighted image" is not an oxymoron; quoting from the free content page: Free content encompasses all works in the public domain and also those copyrighted works whose licenses honor and uphold the freedoms mentioned above. Indeed, the user pages themselves are copyrighted by those who wrote them (just like all Wikipedia articles), but licensed under the GFDL. -- Coffee2theorems 19:22, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Revision as of 12:54, 10 August 2007

If you are here to register a complaint regarding this bot's edits, before doing so please note:
 • There is a very clear policy regarding the use of fair use images outside of the main article namespace (the actual encyclopedia). This policy is located at Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria item #9. We do not permit the use of copyrighted images on portals, userpages, talk pages, or templates.
 • Even if you uploaded the image yourself, if it is copyrighted by someone else, you do not have the right of displaying it in a gallery on your userpage.
 • Permission to use on Wikipedia granted by a copyright holder does not grant permission to use outside of the main article namespace. There are two categories of images at Wikipedia; free license and non-free license. If it's non-free, even if used under permission on Wikipedia, it can not be used outside of the main article namespace. For it to be used so, it must be available under a free license.
 • Read this talk page and its archives before registering your complaint. It is likely someone has already registered a similar complaint, and that complaint will have been given an answer.
 • Bug reports are very welcome; removing images as this bot is doing per policy is not a bug.

Shadowyze

This is to let you know that the article on Shadowyze has been targeted for deletion and needs support.

Inappropriate & multiple messages?

I have had numerous messages left on my talk page by this bot, for using a so-called "copyrighted image". In actual fact the image is part of a userbox that I got from an official userbox source. In addition, the image cannot be removed by the bot since it is a userbox template. This has resulted in numerous warnings by the bot, some within a minute of each other. Very annoying. Also I call into question the validity of the warning since it is a widely accepted userbox. If the image had been unacceptable I should think it would have been removed by now.

Image in question: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Catcher-in-the-rye-red-cover.jpg

And here is the userbox in question:

This user feels the urge to buy just one more copy of The Catcher in the Rye.

thanks for telling me this will not be repeated in future

Hey, Bot!

Hey bot, give my complements to your boss; you are a very fine bot! 84.87.138.105 20:33, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
