Gavin Weiland Huff[2] (born 22 October 2000.[3]), also known under his middle name Weiland, is an American rapper, singer and songwriter. His music is characterized by heavily Auto-Tuned vocals, vintage sounding instruments, and experimental qualities.
Weiland released his debut album PACKRUNNER in 2017[4], and most recently, Vices in 2022[5]
Weiland started releasing music on the music platform SoundCloud in 2016. After the release of a number of songs[6] on the platform, he began to get noticed by members of the rap collective Slayworld along with a number of associated producers[7][8]. Rapidly developing a loyal fanbase, Weiland signed to music executive Steven Victor in 2020. [9] The rapper eventually grabbed the attention of legendary record producer Mike Dean [10] who ultimately helped him with the production of his album Vices. Weiland is also known for providing American rapper and collaborator Yeat with his recording template. [11]
Weiland began his musical career defined by heavily autotuned vocals and fast-paced hi-hat driven beats[12] and continued up until 2020. In late 2020, Weiland revealed a change in his style; switching to a more nostalgic pop sound, reminiscent of a more vintage sound[13]. Weiland unveiled this sound with the release two singles and his most recent album Vices. It is also noted that the rapper drives inspiration from musicians such as Kanye West and Daft Punk.[14]
