Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Loves Women/Team Nigeria/Contests: Difference between revisions

Wiki Loves Women project seeks to fill two major subject gaps – women and Africa – on the free encyclopaedia Wikipedia. These gaps exist both in content on these two themes, but also in terms of participation in the editorial level. Our objective is the fight against the existing inequalities between men and women on the African continent.
On this note, the Nigerian Team for Wiki Loves Women is organizing a series writing contests, which will span a period of 6 months, in the bid to increase the number of Nigeria women-related topics on Wikipedia. Each contest will run for a period of one month, after which another contest of different group of women, will commence. The current contest is focusing on Nigerian women in Politics, and it will run from 20 October 2016 to 19 November 2016.

Contest is Closed

• The first contest (September contest) ran from 20 September 2016to19 October 2016, with focus on women in entertainment.
• While the collation of the results for the first contest is ongoing, the second contest is on from 20 October 2016to19 November 2016. The topic for the second constest is Women in Politics.

• Only articles, images, and other content about Nigerian women of focus for a particular month will be accepted for that month.
• At the start of the contest, the article should not exist or should be a very, very basic stub, allowing for an overhaul; any creation or overhaul (of stubs) done before the start of a particular contest will not be accepted as part of the contest.
• Remember to indicate articles you have created or overhauled, for specific contests here, if they are not listed already.
• These contests are currently available, only for the English Wikipedia. However, created or translated articles in other languages are very welcome.
• Wikimedia UG Nigeria will announce the winners and communicate accordingly for each contest.

• Anyone with account on Wikipedia can participate in the contest.
• Participants are expected to respect our copyright policy. Contents that violate this policy will not be accepted and their articles will be speedily deleted.

• The articles for the contests may be proposed by the participants or picked from a list of suggestions here. Also, indicate articles you have created or overhauled, for specific contests on the page, if they are not listed already.
• Please add the templates {{WikiProject Nigeria}} and Category:Wiki Loves Women Nigeria Writing Contest to the article's talk page.

• Images, voice recordings, and other useful files can be uploaded for the contest by clicking on the "Upload file" link at the bottom left of your Wikipedia page. You can also click here.
• Please remember to add the templates {{WikiProject Nigeria|WLWNG=yes}} and {{WikiProject Wiki Loves Women}} to the file's talk page, after a successful upload.

At the end of entire contest series[edit]

• Best participant :

  The participant with most useful encyclopaedic input during the entire duration of the contests

• Best overall articles : 1st, 2nd, 3rd

  chosen from the best article from each of the monthly contests

• Jury prize :

  Based on Jury's choice, it may be any of:

  • best media (images added, voice record etc.);
  • article translated in other languages;
  • special recognition for contestants/articles
  • etc.

Finding an abundance of reliable, quality sources for Nigerian women is a significant challenge. Web sources may often be of poor quality. For Nigerian women in entertainment, the following sources often tend to be the better ones:
