Col. William Munroe was the orderly sergeant of the Lexington millitia at the Battle of Lexington and Concord.
Col. William Munroe was a descendent of William Munroe (Scottish soldier), who was captured at the Battle of Worcester and taken to Boston as an indentured servant.
Col. Munroe owned two buisinesses on 19 April 1775. One was his tavern, known as Munroe Tavern, and the other was a retail shop. He was a relatively rich man, in comparison to some neighbors.
Col. Munroe was the second in command at the skirmish on the Lexington Common.
